What Chemicals do you Need to Take Care of your Salt Water Arctic Spas?

by | Jan 27, 2022

If you ask a hot tub owner what their least favourite part of having a hot tub is, they will probably tell you it’s taking care of their water. Water chemistry can be hard to understand and often involves dumping lots of different chemicals into your water.

Arctic Spas® has come up with a solution so that you no longer need to spend hours a week taking care of your hot tub’s water. Spa Boy® is a saltwater system that helps test and adjusts your sanitizer levels so you don’t have to fret about it. Here is everything you need to take care of your Arctic Spas® with Spa Boy®:

Salt

The most important chemical in your salt water hot tub is salt. Spa Boy® uses a process called electrolysis to turn the salt in your water into a sanitizer to keep your water clean. The really cool thing about this is that Spa Boy® is able to reuse the salt that is in your water, so you don’t have to add it in your water weekly, just add salt when you first fill your tub and you are ready to go!

pH adjusters:

pH is a very important part of water chemistry and can be a hassle to balance. Hot tub salt water is special because it will slowly bring your pH up. At a first glance that might not seem like a good thing, but it actually is. The pH levels of Spa Boy® tubs are quite predictable and shouldn’t be fluctuating like crazy.

All you need to balance the pH in your Spa Boy® hot tub is Salt Water Balance. When your pH starts to get high, add some 15g of Salt Water Balance and your pH level should drop back down to a normal level.

Oxidizers:

Many hot tubs are now equipped with an ozone system that helps keep the water clean. A common misconception is that an ozone system will eliminate the need for chlorine, but that is not true. You need both a sanitizer (chlorine or bromine) and an oxidizing agent (an ozone system or from a bottle) to keep your water clean. Even if your tub has an ozone system, it is recommended that you have a chemical called Refresh and you add 15g whenever your hot tub water is looking cloudy.

Your phone:

Spa Boy’s® advanced technology is able to send your hot tub’s sanitizer and pH levels right to your smartphone on the Arctic Spas® app! You don’t need to worry about going outside in the cold to test your hot tub water with test strips or drop test kits any more! All of the information you need comes straight to your phone, along with information on temperature, power usage, filtration settings and much more.

Shop on the Arctic Spas® online store for all of your chemical needs.
